Who am I?

I’ve been writing for many years in my spare time  and, for  a long time, doing nothing with all those pages.

Eventually, I decided to take my writing more seriously. I studied for a Bachelor’s Degree in Creative Writing, followed by a Master’s Degree, both through The Open University, and discovered that having deadlines was exactly what I needed to make me sit down and actually write.

After graduating, and as a reward to myself, I booked onto an an Arvon writing retreat in Devon, just before lockdown, and that is where the character of Peggy was born. Her story eventually became my first novel, Peggy, which I self-published in April 2025.

I’ve been particularly touched by the response to the book, especially from readers who enjoyed reading about a woman in her late fifties setting out to build a new life for herself. She's not a particularly likeable character to start with, but forgive her - she's had a tough time.

A little more about me

I was born in Carlisle and moved to Dunstable when I was seven. I’ve spent most of my adult life living in Milton Keynes. Don’t believe all the negatives – it’s a great place to live and bring up a family.

These days, alongside my own writing, I enjoy helping other people find their own stories and ideas. That’s where Freewriting comes in.

After running some very successful face-to-face writing workshops in the Milton Keynes area, I’m now taking them online. You don’t need to think of yourself as a writer. You don’t need a novel inside you. And you certainly don’t need to know what you’re going to write before you start.

Sometimes, all you need is a little encouragement, a blank page and permission to write without worrying about getting it right.
