Freewriting Workshops
Are you feeling overwhelmed by constant distracting thoughts and stress?
Are you looking for a way to boost your creativity and find inner calm?
Freewriting offers the perfect opportunity to quiet your mind, enhance your creative flow, and discover the powerful connection between writing and mindfulness.
After running some very successful face-to-face writing workshops in the Milton Keynes area, I’m now taking them online. Online writing workshops will be launching soon, so if you’d like to be one of the first to hear about them, just click the Contact button [here] and register your interest. I’ll send you all the details as soon as they’re available.
What is Freewriting?
Freewriting is a simple exercise where you write without stopping for a set amount of time, not worrying about grammar or spelling. The goal is to let your thoughts flow freely, helping you clear your mind and access deeper creativity. You do not need to go back and correct anything you think is a mistake – just leave it there.
What is it NOT?
It’s not a record of facts, not a diary, not a journal of what you had for dinner, or how many litres of water you managed to consume. It is not for anyone to read – not even you need to read what you have written – unless you want to of course, but I would recommend you write for a couple of weeks before going back to read what you have written.
Benefits of Freewriting for Your Mind:
- Reduces Stress & Anxiety: Writing without pressure allows you to express emotions, let go of stress, and feel lighter.
- Improves Focus: By focusing on the flow of your thoughts, you can train your mind to be more present and focused.
- Boosts Creativity: Without the fear of perfection, your creative ideas can flow more easily, helping you think creatively.
- Enhances Mindfulness: Freewriting encourages awareness of your inner thoughts and feelings, fostering a mindful state that can improve mental clarity and peace.
Start Your Journey Toward Mindfulness & Creativity! - Rediscover the joy of writing without judgment and unlock the limitless creativity within you.
Freewriting does free the mind, and it does boost creativity. Don’t be scared of someone else reading what you’ve written – if you have real worries, then you can shred the pages once you’ve finished them – it’s the process of writing that matters here, and the process of opening your mind.
What to Expect From the Workshops
Workshops run for 90 minutes where you will be offered a series of prompts with time limits ranging from one minute through to a final ten minutes of writing without thinking. You can share and discuss what you have written if you wish to but there is no pressure to do so. Many people find they are surprised at what they have written - it's not essential to follow the prompts and you can take your writing off on as many tangents as you want to - there are no set rules.
The prompts are designed to encourage positive thoughts, and you should always enjoy your writing, but remember to keep yourself safe – if you find you are writing about anything that upsets or worries you, make sure you have someone you can talk to about it, and get support or help if you need to.
